Experiment 1 [video]

 [The man that appears on the screen is dark-skinned with thick hair, touched by gray at the temples. He’s currently looking at the screen with a quizzical brow.]

Hello? I’ve not seen a device quite like this one before, but I think this is some sort of communication system. If I’ve managed to reach anyone, um, hello! My name is Carlos, Carlos the scientist! [He smiles wide, revealing straight rows of white teeth.] Last I checked I had just become trapped in another world….but this is decidedly not the world I was trapped in, so I’m not quite certain what happened. There’s any number of things that could have happened, of course, scientifically speaking, but unfortunately, I’m rather limited in my means of collecting data, since I don’t seem to have any of my instruments with me. [He turns out the pockets of the labcoat he’s wearing, revealing only some lavender-flavored gum and a pocket notebook.] So, I’ll continue to investigate as much as I can, but if anyone has any scientific instruments I can make use of or some information for me, that would be really helpful!

In any case, I do know that I’m not alone in this world, since I encountered a woman who was very confused and thought I was her son. I can’t seem to get back into the house to ask her any questions though, which is a shame. Maybe that house is this world’s version of the House that Does Not Exist?

I’ve also discovered this very interesting fauna which seems to have taken a liking to me! [He pans the camera over to show an image of a Mareep who has lain down quite contentedly next to Carlos’ feet.] Oh, if only I had my instruments, but it seems he’s some sort of natural conductor of electricity! It’s extremely scientifically fascinating! I’m calling him Tesla. [Tesla bleats happily from Carlos' feet.] He is so cool! 

[Carlos moves the screen to face him again.] Oh geez, I was rambling again, wasn't it? There’s just so much to see and I’d really like to explore! But there’s something important I have to say first.

I’m trying to get back to a place called Night Vale. There’s someone really important there and I promised I’d get back to him. …And now I seem to have lost my only means of contacting him, that is, my cell phone. [At least, he hadn’t found his cell phone when he turned out his lab coat.] On the off chance that anyone knows how to get back to Night Vale or has even heard of it, please, let me know. In the meantime, if anyone has need of a scientist, or has some interesting scientific phenomena to report, I’m your scientist!

I have two birds, and two kind of ferrets, and a dog. And an egg. _{[She looks off screen for a moment and whistles, and then smiles some more when moments later she picks up a Natu to show him.]}

This is Aria, she was my first one.

She's beautiful! [Carlos smiles at the Pokemon over the screen. His Mareep looks up at Molly's whistle and bleats when the Natu comes onto the screen. Hey, a friend!] Aria, huh? Like the musical term?

_{[Aria gives a quiet little chirp right back, shifting her wings. Molly nods.]}

Yeah. I thought maybe she'll sing. But she doesn't really yet.

That's too bad. Maybe she'll pick it up soon. [Carlos smiles.] Have you tried singing to her?

... no.

_{[But that IS an idea.]}

I whistle to her though.

You do? That's sweet of you. I'm sure she likes listening to you whistle? Has she picked that up yet?

Sometimes. She's kind of shy, so she doesn't talk a lot anyway, but she listens when I do. And she sometimes whistles back.

Aww, she's shy, is she? Maybe that's why she hasn't started singing yet. Maybe as you get to know and trust each other better, she'll start.

I hope so. I think it'd be pretty.

_{[She smiles a little.]}

What's your sheep like?

I'm sure it will be! She's a really pretty Pokemon, so it would make sense.

Oh, Tesla? Well, I'm still getting to know him. Mostly he likes to stay close to me. He's pretty relaxed. Although I did have to make sure he knew not to electrocute me by accident. I guess he didn't realize I was susceptible to that sort of thing.

...Ah, yeah. Just briefly! Before he knew any better. He felt bad about it, but I mean, how was he supposed to know I wouldn't be able to receive electricity like he can?

Maybe you can get him a friend with electric powers so he can use them with someone who can.

Hey, that's a good idea! I think he'd like having a friend. I have to figure out how to do this whole Trainer thing first. I'm not sure how good at it I'm going to be.

I wasn't very good at it at first but everybody here is really helpful. If you can find someone to travel with it's pretty easy cause then you can help each other out.

That sounds like a good plan. There is...someone who wants to travel with me, but um. It's a little complicated. [He's not sure how to explain that the woman he's trying to avoid nearly destroyed Night Vale and messed with his boyfriend without freaking her out.]

Why is it complicated? Did you know them before?

Yes, I did. She...well, I didn't know her all that well, myself, personally, since I kind of avoided her. She mostly knew my boyfriend. She was his boss, for a time, and she was really cruel to him. And she kind of took over our town. Before I came here, there was a whole revolution, and we stopped her company, but now she's here, and I'm concerned she might try the same sort of thing here.
