[The man that appears on the screen is dark-skinned with thick hair, touched by gray at the temples. He’s currently looking at the screen with a quizzical brow.]

Hello? I’ve not seen a device quite like this one before, but I think this is some sort of communication system. If I’ve managed to reach anyone, um, hello! My name is Carlos, Carlos the scientist! [He smiles wide, revealing straight rows of white teeth.] Last I checked I had just become trapped in another world….but this is decidedly not the world I was trapped in, so I’m not quite certain what happened. There’s any number of things that could have happened, of course, scientifically speaking, but unfortunately, I’m rather limited in my means of collecting data, since I don’t seem to have any of my instruments with me. [He turns out the pockets of the labcoat he’s wearing, revealing only some lavender-flavored gum and a pocket notebook.] So, I’ll continue to investigate as much as I can, but if anyone has any scientific instruments I can make use of or some information for me, that would be really helpful!

In any case, I do know that I’m not alone in this world, since I encountered a woman who was very confused and thought I was her son. I can’t seem to get back into the house to ask her any questions though, which is a shame. Maybe that house is this world’s version of the House that Does Not Exist?

I’ve also discovered this very interesting fauna which seems to have taken a liking to me! [He pans the camera over to show an image of a Mareep who has lain down quite contentedly next to Carlos’ feet.] Oh, if only I had my instruments, but it seems he’s some sort of natural conductor of electricity! It’s extremely scientifically fascinating! I’m calling him Tesla. [Tesla bleats happily from Carlos' feet.] He is so cool!

[Carlos moves the screen to face him again.] Oh geez, I was rambling again, wasn't it? There’s just so much to see and I’d really like to explore! But there’s something important I have to say first.

I’m trying to get back to a place called Night Vale. There’s someone really important there and I promised I’d get back to him. …And now I seem to have lost my only means of contacting him, that is, my cell phone. [At least, he hadn’t found his cell phone when he turned out his lab coat.] On the off chance that anyone knows how to get back to Night Vale or has even heard of it, please, let me know. In the meantime, if anyone has need of a scientist, or has some interesting scientific phenomena to report, I’m your scientist!

Unfortunately, Pokemon Centers usually just focus on pokemon... but yeah, any help will be great.

That's true! We'll just have to keep working to improve things.

Well, not directly, but people are the ones who own Pokemon right? At least when they aren't wild. So in a way, a Pokemon helps people take care of their Pokemon.

[ There's a nod from the first bit. He likes you already, Carlos. ]

That's the main idea, anyway. But it's a little harder to find any actual help for the trainers when they need it. Good thing the Chanseys know what they're doing, at least.

Hmm...I can see that being a problem. I wish I was more medically inclined...[He knows some things, but he's much more of a field worker than a medical professional.] The Chanseys?

[ He figures it's better to show rather than tell. Easier, if anything. But Yukio's just going to glance over his shoulder. ]

Airi, could you come over here a second?

[ And with a curious "chansey?", his own Chansey comes waddling over with a look on her face that looks to ask "what's up, trainer?" ]

This is a Chansey. My Chansey, specifically. You'll probably see more pokemon like her at the Centers.

She's so sweet, wow! [He still hasn't gotten over the allure of this cool creatures, and he doubts he ever will really. The variety is just staggering.] So then...Chansey's typically help out in the Pokemon Centers?

[ There's a cheerful little "Chansey!" from Airi at the compliment. Gosh, trainer. This guy seems nice! ]

I think she appreciates the compliment. But to answer your question, I've seen most Pokemon Centers employ Chansey as part of the staff. They seem to have a knack for healing.

[ And there's a sheepish little grin from Yuki himself. ]

It didn't take her too long to pick up the first aid tips I was trying to teach her before she evolved. She's been even more help when she did though.

Well, she deserves it. [Carlos smiles. She really is a cute Pokemon, and she's even more amazing now that Carlos knows she knows first aid, that is so cool.] She must be extremely intelligent if you were able to teach her first aid. I had no idea Pokemon were capable enough that they could be employed at a Pokemon Center!

[ And there's a pleased little "Chaaaaa~" from Airi and a definite blush. Ah, such a sweet human! She's grateful for the praise. ]

You'd be surprised. It looks like almost everyone uses them for something here. I think I remember seeing some people using Machoke for construction.

That is so cool! I can't wait to see what sort of things my own Pokemon will be capable of. [Right now he only has his starter, but he's already excited by the possibility of what a Pokemon capable of generating electricity is capable of.]

If you're really that interested in the pokemon themselves, I think there's going to be plenty for you to look forward to.

[ Because these are just two pokemon man. Just. Two. ]

How could I not be interested? They're amazing! They're capable of so much, and despite the fact that they're all one species, they are all so diverse!

And despite everyone knowing about them, there's still a lot we don't know.

[ And a short laugh. ]

Has anyone told you about the pokemon that look like birds who aren't able to transport us until they know the move Fly?

Well, we could say the same thing about everything. The universe, the Earth, ourselves. But yes, isn't that great!

W-What? Their wings don't work?

[ He's got to hand it to you, Carlos. Your love of science is infectious. ]

Well... it's not that they don't work. They can fly just fine. But after learning a move called Fly, they suddenly gain the ability to bring us to towns we've been to before even if they look like they normally could.

That's....strange. Could you ride them in a normal capacity? Like, say, I just want to get on my Pokemon's back and fly around in a town I'm already in. Would they be capable of that?

Well... I've never really tried. I don't think any of the flying types I have are big enough to begin with.

[ Note to self. ]

It happens to water types, too. Even if they're big enough to carry you, they can't really carry you over water unless they know the move Surf.

Hmm. I guess I'll have to experiment if I ever catch a Flying type!

That's very strange. It's almost like they're not...programmed for it until then....
