Experiment 1 [video]

[The man that appears on the screen is dark-skinned with thick hair, touched by gray at the temples. He’s currently looking at the screen with a quizzical brow.]

Hello? I’ve not seen a device quite like this one before, but I think this is some sort of communication system. If I’ve managed to reach anyone, um, hello! My name is Carlos, Carlos the scientist! [He smiles wide, revealing straight rows of white teeth.] Last I checked I had just become trapped in another world….but this is decidedly not the world I was trapped in, so I’m not quite certain what happened. There’s any number of things that could have happened, of course, scientifically speaking, but unfortunately, I’m rather limited in my means of collecting data, since I don’t seem to have any of my instruments with me. [He turns out the pockets of the labcoat he’s wearing, revealing only some lavender-flavored gum and a pocket notebook.] So, I’ll continue to investigate as much as I can, but if anyone has any scientific instruments I can make use of or some information for me, that would be really helpful!

In any case, I do know that I’m not alone in this world, since I encountered a woman who was very confused and thought I was her son. I can’t seem to get back into the house to ask her any questions though, which is a shame. Maybe that house is this world’s version of the House that Does Not Exist?

I’ve also discovered this very interesting fauna which seems to have taken a liking to me! [He pans the camera over to show an image of a Mareep who has lain down quite contentedly next to Carlos’ feet.] Oh, if only I had my instruments, but it seems he’s some sort of natural conductor of electricity! It’s extremely scientifically fascinating! I’m calling him Tesla. [Tesla bleats happily from Carlos' feet.] He is so cool!

[Carlos moves the screen to face him again.] Oh geez, I was rambling again, wasn't it? There’s just so much to see and I’d really like to explore! But there’s something important I have to say first.

I’m trying to get back to a place called Night Vale. There’s someone really important there and I promised I’d get back to him. …And now I seem to have lost my only means of contacting him, that is, my cell phone. [At least, he hadn’t found his cell phone when he turned out his lab coat.] On the off chance that anyone knows how to get back to Night Vale or has even heard of it, please, let me know. In the meantime, if anyone has need of a scientist, or has some interesting scientific phenomena to report, I’m your scientist!

[A scientist, huh? He sure seemed very...science-y, at least. Hey, he has to respect a man with that much passion for his job.]

So you'll be ready to help if I ever need a scientist, huh? How about we trade? If you ever need a lawyer, that is.

...although I'm afraid I've never heard of a place called "Night Vale". But there seem to be plenty of worlds and places here that people have some from, so you're definitely not out of options.
presentyourbadge: (That probably shouldn't go there.)

Practically non-existent. [Phoenix deadpans.] But I figure it's always best to be prepared. I'm not sure exactly what kind of "science" you'll be able to do here, either...

So it's even difficult to find by your world's standards? (One of the benefits of being in a big city, I guess...) That's good that you've found someone, though. I haven't seen anyone from mind here yet, not this time, anyway.

Was there something preventing you from contacting him in your own world? [A bit odd, but not unheard of. He's been able to meet people in Johto that he never would have been able to meet at home, in his own time. Still though...

Phoenix laughs.]
Anyone I know would have shown up by now, I'm sure. They're sort of a mess without me around. [That's a lie. Your staff are probably more competent than you sometimes, Phoenix.]
presentyourbadge: (Huh.)

Oh! I see. So you two were communicating long-distance. [Long-distance relationship, maybe? The scientist was speaking fond enough of the guy for it.

At that, Phoenix smiles, and nods.]
Of course. They could have shown up now, I suppose, although I haven't heard from them yet. People seem to come in batches every few weeks or so...

Wait, back up -- you two were in different worlds before you even got here?

I guess that's sort of a good thing that you're both here now, in this case.

[Phoenix shrugs. Sorry, Carlos, he doesn't really have many answers for you.] All I know is that this place can bring in almost anyone from any time and any place. For example, last time I was here, I got to meet my daughter for the first time...whereas back home, I didn't meet her until about two years after that. Imagine how surprised I was when this kid came right on up to me and said I was her father!

[Yeah, that's boyfriend talk right there. Phoenix feels a bit of empathy for the guy, knowing the trials and tribulations of being apart from loved ones for an extended period of time. Like your boyfriend living in Europe for seven years like what?]

Being around the people you care about will make this experience a lot easier to handle, I know that. Has he been here for long, or did he arrive at the same time you did? [Hey, Phoenix might know him!]

Huh! That's a pretty good amount of time. [Phoenix tries to remember exactly how long the time discrepancies between him and his friends were when we was here still.] But it's also not so bad. I've definitely heard of worse.
